We at the Eastern Bluebird Rescue Group care deeply about bluebirds. We think they are once again in danger. They are losing habitat to logging and development and are threatened by pesticides and herbicides. Bluebirds are unable to make the hollows or cavities required for their nests and they must rely on woodpeckers or natural decay to provide their nesting sites. These sites are becoming increasingly scarce.
We feel that the continuing loss of natural nesting sites and other problems faced by bluebirds indicate that this beloved bird will always need man's help to survive. The goal of the Eastern Bluebird Rescue Group is to increase the population of these beautiful song birds in our area. We are working toward that goal by building bluebird houses and through educational presentations. Our volunteers have built over 391,000 bluebird houses and hundreds of wildlife presentations have been conducted for a wide variety of groups.
